Longquan Gr
Type Locality and Naming
SW Zhejiang. The Longquan Gr was named by Zhang Jiankang, Wang Chengsong et al. in 1983. The type section is around Longquan-Qingkeng, southwestern Zhejiang Province.
Synonym: (龙泉群); Mayuan Gr, Jian'ou Gr, Youxi Schist and Mamianshan Gr of northwestern Fujian Province are considered as different names for the same Longquan Gr.
Lithology and Thickness
The Longquan Gr is the upward succession of the Wanshan Fm, Qingkeng Fm, and Nonong Fm. [See those individual formations for details.] In the type section, the Longquan Gr is dominated by metamorphosed volcano-sedimentary rock of high greenschist facies. It is composed of mica leptite [=obsolete term for a fine-grained banded, gneissic rock; often interpreted as metamorphosed volcanics], mica-quartz schist, quartz-mica schist, epidote amphibolite, biotite-actinolite schist, intercalated with magnetite quartzite and marble. The exposed thickness is recorded to 2000 m and more.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base is in fault contact with underlying Badu Gr (Paleoproterozoic)
Upper contact
Top of the group is not seen, and it is unconformably covered by the Fenping Fm of Mesozoic Era.
Regional extent
SW Zhejiang – N. Fujian. The Longquan Gr is widely developed in Longquan and Qingyuan counties, southwestern Zhejiang Province and in northern Fujian Province
